Chapter 13 First Impression Post

Each personality test gave me a slightly different result. I found the HumanMetrics Jung Typology Test to be the most accurate regarding how I perceive my own personality. This test assigned me the personality type INFJ, which stands for introvert, intuitive, feeling, and judging. I definitely consider myself an introvert and tend to go with my gut feelings when making decisions. The test from the Personality Test Center said my Jungian personality type was ISFJ, which is clearly very similar to my other results. I believe that I prefer intuition to sensing, which is why I found the first test to be more accurate for me. I think the results varied due to how the questions were worded which chose me to pick one answer over the other. I trust these the most because I did some research and found that this test type has been significantly validated. The ColorQuiz seemed to also be accurate; however, picking the colors seemed kind of random so I was surprised any of the results seemed to describe me. Lastly, the IPIP Big Five Test also found me to be more on the introverted side with high agreeableness, imagination, and conscientiousness. Overall, I think the results seemed consistent across each test, and each had accurate points that I perceive when evaluating my own personality. It was hard to find any huge points with which I disagreed with in any one quiz, which I think helps validate the results.

  1. I think it is really interesting there was a high reliability among all your personality tests regarding introversion and other traits. You and I got the same Meyers-Brigs type too, INFJ! Apparently this is one of the more rare personality types. As we learned in class both the five factor test, developed by McRae and Costa, and the Meyers-Brigs Typology Inventory (MBTI) both score a person’s tendency towards different traits on their own continuums. The MBTI measure’s a person’s comprehensive personality by giving them an assigned type on a specific continuum on extroversion or introversion, sensing or intuitive, thinking or feeling, and finally judging or perceiving. The five factor, or “the Big Five,” tests on openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.

You bring up a great point about the wording of the tests. As we learned in class, especially between cultures, there is a debate whether personality tests should be translated word for word or if concepts should be used. It is important to make the language clear because it allows for standardization to happen with personality testing.

I’m glad you researched some information on the tests and found it was valid; meaning the tests are both accurate in what they are trying to measure and people get the same results (reliability). Obviously, it is important to have tests of personality which are both since personality traits are on a continuum. I’m happy that you thought the test described your personality well!

  2. Although I did not do an impression post for this chapter, I was too intrigued by the personality tests and took them. I think the wording of the questions really impacted my results, because some tests called my introverted and the other called my extroverted. As we learned in class, clear language impacts results, especially across cultures.
I found the color quiz to have the most accurate results which I think is odd because I also think it seemed random. The big 5 tests OCEAN, which we learned stands for openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. My highest was agreeableness, which is funny because I am a very stubborn person. I think it is great that you were able to see valid results that were consistent and accurate across tests that described you. If that had happened for me, I would be more likely to agree with you that they are valid tests. Overall, I’m glad you were able to obtain consistent results and enjoyed reading your thoughts on the tests!

  3. Like you, I got mostly consistent results across the different personality tests. Almost all of them claimed that I was slightly more introverted than extroverted, that I cared deeply for others, and that I had a deep rooted set of internal values. I did however consider that there may be some inaccuracies within my results because I tended to get bored during some of the longer tests, and blow through the questions more quickly. I thought that the Big 5 test (the one that measures openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism) gave me the most interesting results, as my agreeableness score placed me in the 62nd percentile and, like Carly said, I can be very stubborn and unyielding when something is in my way. Overall, I’m glad to see that someone else had results of similar consistency to mine!

  4. Hi!
While completing each personality test, I also got slightly different results while comparing between each test. It is interesting to me that you chose the Jung Typology test as what you thought was the most accurate. I described this test as the one I also thought was the most accurate. On my test, I scored neither extravert now introvert, sensing, judging, and feeling. Overall, you seemed to have a positive thought on all the tests. I on the other hand did not believe that every single one of these test was accurate. Personally, I got many different answers between tests. Some considered me an extrovert while some said i was an introvert. Because of this big range of different personalities, I walked away from each test more confused than the last. I am happy that you had a more positive experience!
Overall, great job on you post! I really enjoyed reading it.

  5. Each of these tests we were told to take gave most of us different results the different tests. These tests should take a step back and make sure the questions match across the different tests these sites give. You can’t always rely on these results because of the difference between them. The thing to take away from these is to determine what traits match you the best and which ones you can improve upon.
